A Quick Review of the GARIZ leather half case for the Sony NEX-7

A Quick Review of the GARIZ leather half case for the Sony NEX-7

Gariz-Case

Over the last couple of months I have found that when shooting with my Nex-7 the camera became uncomfortable in my hand after a period of time. There was something a little off balance about it and when I stopped to think about it I realised that it was the fact that the grip was too short for my hands. A little bit of research later and I found that there were two options to remedy this. I could go with a metal grip extender (of which there are a few) or I could go with a leather half case. After a bit of searching I came across this wonderful looking case from Gariz. It had a leather body, but more importantly, it had a substantial metal base which would extend the grip down by just enough. So, I ordered one through e-bay, and a few days later it was adorning the bottom of my camera.

The case is absolutely brilliant. I couldn't be more happy with it. Specifically though, there are two aspects of it that I really like. The first is the outstanding build quality. It's a gorgeous blend of leather and stainless steel. The metal base is a thing of beauty. It's beautifully crafted and you can really see the workmanship that went into it.

The second is the bottom plate. The designers have created a large hole in it that lets you still access the battery and card drawer, so that you don't have to take it off every time you want to take the card out, which is a big pain with some other half cases I've tried in the past. It's a really clever solution and it works a treat, although it can be a bit fiddley getting the memory card in some times.

So did it solve my problem? Absolutely. The Nex-7 feels much more balanced when I shoot with it now. It's definitely a lot better. If you're looking for a case for your camera I suggest you take a look at these guys as their craftsmanship really is superb.
