Luminar Flex Announced
Skylum has just announced Luminar Flex. This is basically a plug-in only version of Luminar. It seems as if they are planning to fork Luminar into two different products. Luminar Flex, which will be the plug-in version and then Luminar 3 which is the complete standalone software.
I’m not going to get into the reasoning behind this, as I don’t really know to be honest, but I will cover this in more detail soon, including a full review. For now, here’s some highlights of the official press release:
Today, Skylum Software announced Luminar Flex, a plugin that offers unique and powerful editing features to help photographers elevate the creativity of their images.
Luminar Flex features incredible adjustments and effects that can’t be found anywhere else. Luminar Flex plugin fits into almost every photographer’s workflow, integrating with third-party tools like Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, Photoshop Elements and Photos for macOS.
“While our Luminar 3 software has been groundbreaking in terms of offering an all-in-one management and editing platform for photographers, we want it to be the best tool for everyone. That’s why Luminar now comes in two distinct versions,” said Alex Tsepko, CEO of Skylum. “The Luminar Flex plugin lets photographers continue to use their host software of choice, while taking advantage of Luminar’s one-of-a-kind editing features, such as Accent AI, Golden Hour, Details Enhancer and AI Sky Enhancer.”
Existing Luminar owners will get the software for free, and new customers can buy it now. You can find out more details on the Skylum website, and if you do want to purchase it, if you use my affiliate code TFP10 you can get US$10 off.
If you’re wondering how this is different from running Luminar 3 as a plug-in, I’m not sure to be honest, but I will try and find out. I don’t really know what to make of this, but I can kind of understand, as I almost exclusively use Luminar as a plug-in, but I’m sure there will be lots of “discussions” about this. I will review this and offer more thoughts as soon as I’ve had a chance to try it out properly.
