DxO Launches ViewPoint 5 for Advanced Geometry and Perspective Control

DxO Launches ViewPoint 5 for Advanced Geometry and Perspective Control

DxO Labs has announced the release of DxO ViewPoint 5, an updated version of their specialised photo editing software. This tool is designed for photographers who need precise control over image geometry, perspective correction, and the effects of wide-angle lenses.

ReShape Fusion: More Control for Local Adjustments

The most notable addition in this release is the enhanced ReShape Fusion tool. This feature builds upon the previous ReShape tool by offering more localised adjustments and finer control over key image elements. In earlier versions, users could manually manipulate the mesh of the image to realign or correct small details. Now, with ReShape Fusion, users have access to Move, Rotate, and Scale functions, allowing for more complex edits. These functions enable users to precisely warp and modify specific areas of the image, correcting imperfections without affecting the entire frame.

One of the key innovations is the Propagation Slider, which lets users blend these local edits seamlessly into surrounding areas. The changes can be subtle or more pronounced, depending on the level of adjustment required. This feature aims to deliver more natural and photographic results, making even complex corrections appear visually cohesive. Additionally, a Sticky Borders option ensures that adjustments made within the image don’t result in unwanted empty spaces or distortions at the edges.

Local Horizon and Perspective Adjustments

With version 5, DxO ViewPoint extends its capabilities to include localised horizon and perspective corrections. Traditionally, adjusting horizons or fixing perspective issues would affect the entire image, but with the new toolset, photographers can now target specific areas where corrections are needed. This means that a tilted or skewed building in one corner of the image can be corrected without affecting other elements. By combining these tools with the Propagation Slider, users can gradually blend the corrections into the rest of the image for a smooth, natural effect. The Sticky Borders feature remains available here as well, ensuring that the image frame stays intact.

Volume Deformation Corrections for Wide-Angle Lenses

DxO ViewPoint 5 addresses one of the most common challenges in photography: volume deformation, which occurs when using wide or ultra-wide-angle lenses. These lenses often stretch objects at the edges of the frame, creating a distorted, unnatural look. In previous versions, DxO ViewPoint allowed global corrections for this effect, but with version 5’s ReShape Fusion tool, users can now apply volume deformation corrections to specific areas. This level of precision means that users can correct wide-angle distortions selectively, leaving the central elements of the image intact while restoring natural proportions to the edges.

Enhanced Workflow Integration

DxO ViewPoint 5 integrates seamlessly with DxO PhotoLab 8, allowing photographers to take full advantage of RAW image processing while applying geometric corrections. When used within PhotoLab, ViewPoint’s tools can work directly within the RAW workflow, maintaining the highest image quality throughout the editing process. In addition to its native integration with PhotoLab, ViewPoint 5 can also function as standalone software or as a plugin for other popular photo editing programs, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom Classic, and Adobe Photoshop Elements. This flexibility ensures that DxO ViewPoint 5 can be incorporated into any photographer’s existing workflow.

Pricing and Availability

DxO ViewPoint 5 is available for Windows and macOS platforms and can be purchased directly from DxO’s website. Pricing for a new license starts at $109 (€109, £99), with an upgrade option available for users of previous versions (v3 or v4) at $69 (€69, £59). A free, 30-day trial is also available, allowing potential users to explore the full suite of tools before committing to a purchase.

Additionally, DxO ViewPoint 5 can be bundled with DxO PhotoLab 8, offering an all-in-one solution for photographers seeking both advanced RAW processing and geometric correction tools. The bundle is priced at $269 (€269, £249). For users looking for an even broader toolset, DxO offers a further bundle that includes DxO FilmPack 7, software designed to emulate the look of classic film stocks. This expanded package is priced at $349 (€349, £329).
