A Few More Notes About Capture One for Nikon: Capture One Express for Nikon and New Profiles

A Few More Notes About Capture One for Nikon: Capture One Express for Nikon and New Profiles

With all of the announcements from Capture One yesterday, I missed a couple of points about Capture One for Nikon. In addition to the new Nikon pro version, there is also now a version of Capture One Express for Nikon. They have also added new colour profiles for selected Nikon Cameras.

Picture Profiles

For newer Nikon Cameras, you now have a section of colour profiles that match the in-camera options. This seems to work a little differently than the way the Fujifilm ones do, but it gives you the options you would normally find on the picture modes in-camera. For Fujifilm cameras, the “film simulation modes” can be found under the curve pop-up, but for the Nikon profiles, you’ll find them under the ICC Profile Pop-up.

New Colour Profile Support for Nikon Cameras in Capture One

I can’t find a list of which cameras have profiles or not, as the current list only shows compatibility with the software, and not which has profile support, but in my library, my old D700 and D90 are not supported, but the files I have from a D800 are supported. Newer cameras such as the Z series and so on should also all be supported.

With each profile, you still have access to all of the curve options too, such as “Film Standard”, “Film High Contrast” and so on.

Capture One Express Nikon

I also missed the fact that Capture One Express is now available for Nikon cameras too. Capture One Express Nikon is a free cut down version of Capture One. It has basic functions such as RAW conversion and so on, but lacks some of the more advanced options. Still, its probably a step up from the software that’s included with your camera.

Here’s a video from Capture One themselves about Capture One express. This is for the Fuji version, but it’s pretty much the same.

This means Capture One express is now available for Fuji, Sony and Nikon cameras.

The latest version of Capture One is available now. For users already using Capture One Pro 20, this is a free upgrade. If you want to buy Capture One, you can find all the versions currently available here on the new website. To learn more about the new Nikon version, see here.
