New Fuji Colour Profile Presets for Lightroom
A while ago I made a set of presets for Fuji users which are based on the Fuji film simulation colour profiles as provided by Adobe. these presets are basically just a quick way to set the colour profile by selecting a preset rather than having to go to the camera calibration panel and select the profile there. They also have the advantage of allowing you to set the profiles on import, or allowing you to quickly apply a profile to multiple images at once.
Some Examples of My Fuji Jpeg Settings in Action
I wrote a post yesterday outlining some of the Jpeg settings that I use on a regular basis when shooting with my X-E1. While I mainly use Raw, I generally shoot Raw + Jpeg. Anyway, I wanted to experiment, and shoot specifically within the range of settings that I specified and limit myself to using the Jpeg files, and so I headed into a nearby park yesterday to take some pictures.
My Fuji X Series In-Camera Settings
On this blog, I've covered the settings and techniques I use for processing Fuji raw files quite a bit, but I've never really discussed the settings that I use in-camera for use with Jpeg images. While I mostly use the Raw files, I do occasionally use Jpegs straight from the camera. Over the years I've been using my X-E1, I've chopped and changed the setup that I use quite a bit, but here are the settings that I currently use.
Iridient Developer Updated with Partial X-Pro 2 Support
The latest update to Iridient Developer was announced yesterday and it adds partial support for Fuji X-Pro 2 files. Currently it only supports uncompressed raw files from Fuji's new camera. The update also adds some other bug fixes and improvements.
Photo Ninja adds Partial Support for Fuji X-Pro 2 Files
Photo Ninja from picture code has added partial support for Fuji’s new X-Pro 2 camera. Currently the application only supports uncompressed raw files, and compressed raw has yet to be supported. You can get Photo Ninja, including a trial version from Picture Code’s website.
Where to Get Fuji X-Pro 2 Raw Files
The recent Lightroom and Camera raw updates added support for the newly announced, but yet to be released, X-Pro 2. I was curious to see how the raw files looked given the history of Lightroom and X-Trans files, but as the camera isn’t out yet, I can’t exactly rent one. After doing a bit of searching however, I did come across a couple of sites with sample raw files you can download.
An interesting look to Black and White Images from Fuji X-Trans cameras with Iridient Developer and Lightroom
I haven't really covered Iridient developer much since version 3 was released ( a good while ago now), which I must apologise for, as there's actually some cool features in the updated version. I actually don't use it as much as I used to any more, which is why I haven't really written much about it, but there is one really good feature that I've been meaning to post about, and so here it goes. If you're using X-Trans files with Iridient Developer 3, there's a special demosaicing mode for black and white images, which maximises the quality of monochrome images from the camera, and it has a really nice look to it.
Some More Examples of Coffee Tones for Lightroom in Action
Last week I released my latest set of Lightroom Presets, “Coffee Tones”. The presets are a set of film like coffee coloured filters for use in Lightroom. I wanted to share some more examples that I’ve used the presets on, including some shots that I took this weekend. I also wanted to thank everyone who sent kind comments on the new set.
Fuji X-Pro 2 Launched
After months of rumours and speculation the long awaited X-Pro II from Fujifilm has finally launched, and from the looks of it, it was worth the wait. While the new model looks very similar to the original one, there are lots of changes.
Second Hand Fuji Cameras
There will undoubtedly be lots of excitement surrounding the announcement of the new X-Pro 2 if it is announced as rumoured in a few hours time. However, if you're looking to get into the Fuji X system on the cheap, you should look at the second hand market. Certain Fuji cameras are going for very little on the second hand market right now. If you're on a tight budget and you are interested in becoming an X-Shooter it's certainly worth a look.
Choosing a Raw Processor for Fuji X-Trans Files - Updated
A couple of years ago I wrote a blog post about choosing a raw converter for Fuji X-Trans files. I spoke about which was my favourite piece of software at the time, and I did a pros and cons list for some of the various different converters on the market. Since that was back in 2014, a lot has changed since then. There are major new versions of several of the applications out now, and I’ve changed my mind as to which I prefer personally.
What makes Fuji’s X-Trans sensor unique (An excerpt from my Fuji X-Trans Lightroom Processing Guide Booklet)
When I launched my latest guide book for processing X-Trans images in Lightroom, I promised that I’d publish a few excerpts from it, so here, as promised is a small segment….
My Guide for Processing Fuji X-Trans files in Lightroom Now Available
As many of my long time readers and followers will know, I’ve posted lots of articles and blog posts on this site over the years about processing Fuji X-Trans files. Over the last few years, I’ve covered lots of different aspects, and I have quite a bit of information on here. I’ve been working to collate all those separate blog posts into a single guide (well, a guide for each application) and I’ve previously posted my guide for working with Capture One. Since that time I’ve been hard at work on the guide for Lightroom, and I’m delighted to say that it’s finally finished and available on my store.
Simulating Fuji X-Series Dynamic Range Settings in Lightroom
One of the useful settings on your Fuji Camera is the Dynamic Range settings, or DRO for short. What DR does is allow you to capture more information in the shadow and highlight areas when shooting JPEG files, effectively extending the dynamic range of the shot. This information doesn’t translate directly into the raw files. I this tutorial I'll show you how to get close to the in-camera settings.
My Workflow and Settings for Processing Fuji Files in Capture One: Part 2
This is the second part of my two part guide on Processing X-Trans files in Capture One. In the first part I looked at changing the default settings and creating a user style to apply those settings in import. I also looked at how to manage Raw + Jpeg pairs in Capture One. In this second part I'm going to look at a few of the common Capture One adjustments and how they affect processing Fuji files in particular. I'll also show my methods of integrating Capture One with Lightroom.
My Workflow and Settings for Processing Fuji X-Trans Files in Capture One: Part 1
A while ago I had a post about how much I was enjoying the combination of Capture One and Fuji X-Trans files. I wrote about how I really like the way Capture One renders Fuji Raw files, in both terms of details, and colour. I didn’t go into much detail though about some of the settings that I use and how I manage my workflow when working with Capture One. I’ve been wanting to write up a sort of guide to my common settings, and also some workflow tips for each of the various applications that I use, and so, here is the first one.
All of my Fuji X-Trans Sharpening Presets for Lightroom in One Place
Over the past few years I’ve written a lot about processing Fuji X-Trans files in both Lightroom and other software. I’ve experimented lots of times with ways to improve the look of files from Lightroom, and in particular, on how to minimise the smearing effect that can sometimes occur with Fuji X-Trans files and fine details, especially foliage. I’ve worked out some sharpening settings in the past and posted them here, but that was a good while ago, and I’ve updated them several times with various different attempts. In order to save a bit of confusion and make it easier for everyone, I’ve put them altogether into one download, together with some new versions that I haven’t shared in the past.
Street Photography Diary No. 5
I was back out shooting some street photos in Dublin this past weekend, and I had a great time doing it. It's been a bit of a challenge shooting street photography in the city here recently because of the massive amount of road and construction work going on. Basically they're extending one of the city's existing tram lines, which originally terminated at the south side of the city centre, to cross right through the heart of Dublin, and out the other side.
