Weekly Photography News and Inspiration Roundup
It’s another Friday and that means it’s time for another roundup of photography related news and links that I found interesting during the week. Incidentally this week’s featured photo is “Wild Grass” (by me!) and was taken with the D700 and processed using VSCO Film 4.
Nikon D810
The big story this week is Nikon’s release of the D810. I think many people were expecting a relatively minor upgrade to the D800 but Nikon surprised a lot of people and the new D810 is a little more of a comprehensive upgrade over the D800 that some were expecting.
There’s a lot of good first impressions and reaction on various sites out there, so here’s a selection of posts that I thought were pretty good. I’ll have my own thoughts about the camera next week once I’ve had a bit of time to digest everything.
- Nikon Rumors has a great selection of videos, showing both promo videos and first impression video reviews.
- Nikon D810: What You Need to Know - A good piece from DPReview on what’s new with the D810.
- Nikon D810 High Resolution Image Samples - Photography life has direct links to some of the official high resolution samples that Nikon has released.
- Nikon D810 vs D800 / D800E : A comparison of the new and old versions of the the D8XX line by Nassim over at Photography life
If you’re interested in the D810, you can pre-order it now from B&H Photo or Amazon.
Other Gear related News
Fujifilm have released a slew of Firmware updates for the company’s various X-Series cameras, mainly to support the new XF18–135mm lens. Mirrorless Rumors has a full list of the updates and links to the downloads.
The Camera Store TV has a video review of the Sony A7s.
Capture One Special:
If you’re interested in getting Capture One Pro, B&H still have it on sale for the next few days (till the 30th June). It’s a pretty good deal as it’s nearly $100 off. I’m not sure if this is only in the US though.
Inspiration
Here are some good photography and artists that I’ve come across this week to help inspire you!

I came across this amazing portfolio of work from Japanese Photographer Hideaki Hamada. Beautiful portraits and lifestyle imagery in a lovely bright style. He’s also been featured on VSCO’s journal.
That’s it for this week. If you have any links of interest please send them to me!
