Understanding Fuji’s Shadow and Highlight Tone Options - An Excerpt from my Fuji Jpeg Guide

Last week I launched my latest in a series of guidebooks for Fuji shooters. This one focussed on using Jpegs, and how to shoot and process them to get the best results. It dealt with some of the quirks of Fuji’s in-camera options and so on. I was actually surprised at how successful it was, and I was actually afraid my store would crash on the first day, as the interest was so high. I want to really thank everyone who bought a copy as I really wasn’t expecting it to be so successful. For this who haven’t seen it yet, I wanted to give you a taste, and so here’s an edited excerpt from the guide about how Fuji’s Highlight and Shadow Tone options work…

My Fuji Jpeg Guide is coming Next Week

I’ve been working on my next Fuji guide for so long now, I can’t really remember when it started. I had wanted to write a guide on the specifics of working with Fuji jpegs, and I had a plan all laid out, but it ended up being more difficult that I had anticipated. I kept deciding to add parts, and then I would rewrite sections, and eventually the plan kind of went out the window. Video: Editing Fuji Jpeg Files in Apple Photos

I’ve been talking about working with Fuji Jpeg files a lot recently, and I wanted to show one way in which I regularly work with them, and that is to use Apple’s Photos application. So, in this video, I take a look at how I go about editing Fuji Jpeg files in Apple’s Photos Application on the mac.

Fuji’s New Raw Converter: Fujifilm X Raw Studio

Among the several things announced by Fujifilm this morning, including the new XE-3, the company also revealed that they are working on some new software for converting raw files. The software, called “Fujifilm X Raw Studio” works in a somewhat unique way. Rather than processing your raw files on your computer, it connects to your Fuji camera and uses the cameras processor to do the conversion.

My Fuji X Series In-Camera Settings

On this blog, I've covered the settings and techniques I use for processing Fuji raw files quite a bit, but I've never really discussed the settings that I use in-camera for use with Jpeg images. While I mostly use the Raw files, I do occasionally use Jpegs straight from the camera. Over the years I've been using my X-E1, I've chopped and changed the setup that I use quite a bit, but here are the settings that I currently use.
