London's Borough Market: Processing DSLR images on an iPhone with VSCO Cam via Apple Photos on the Mac!

Ok, that headline is a bit of a mouthful, but it’s better than some of the others I’ve been thinking about for this post. Basically, I’ve been doing something that’s probably a bit silly from a workflow point of view, but is actually a bit of fun and is producing some interesting results. Basically, I’ve been using VSCO Cam on the iPhone to process some of the images I shot in London on my Nikon D700.

Street Photography Diary No. 9

As Autumn becomes winter here in Dublin, I've been back out taking more street photography. The centre of the city is still a construction zone and will be for some time. That has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, it offers some interesting opportunities for photography, but on the other hand, it makes moving around the city difficult, and it reduces the room you have when trying to frame things. Of course limitations can sometimes be a benefit too, and so I've tried to use the limited space as an advantage rather than a limitation whenever I could.

Street Photography Diary No. 8

Here's the latest in my series of Street Photography diary posts. I'm not going to talk too much about this one, and just let the pictures speak for themselves. This is also going to be a shorter collection than usual. The changing light here as we are now deep into winter provides some great opportunities for shadows and warm autumn light. While you might generally consider Autumn a time for nature and landscape photography, the beauty of the season works for other types too. I just love the Autumn light here in Ireland, as the Sun is low, The shadows are long and everything has a golden hue.

Street Photography Diary No. 7: Autumn in the City

Autumn has begun in earnest here in Dublin city, and the city trees are starting to turn form the rich summer green to the beautiful gold of Autumn. Not only are the trees changing, but the light is too. I love the Autumn light. Being relatively far north here in Ireland, the Autumn and winter months bring a lower Sun which gives it a warmer colour and longer, more dramatic shadows.

Street Photography Diary - No.6. Black and White Edition

I've been kind of in a rut lately when it comes to shooting street photography. I've been doing the typical thing of blaming everything else. It's the weather (in fairness, it was) or it's the fact that there's roadworks everywhere in Dublin right now, but the truth of the matter is it's just me. Not one to be undeterred, I decided that to get my mojo back, I'd try something different. I do like black and white images, but lately I've been mostly shooting colour, so I decided to set my camera to black and white, and see what happens.

Street Photography Diary No. 5

I was back out shooting some street photos in Dublin this past weekend, and I had a great time doing it. It's been a bit of a challenge shooting street photography in the city here recently because of the massive amount of road and construction work going on. Basically they're extending one of the city's existing tram lines, which originally terminated at the south side of the city centre, to cross right through the heart of Dublin, and out the other side.

Street Photography Diary No. 4

Here’s the latest instalment in my ongoing series which previously had the somewhat unimaginative name of “Recent Street Photography”. I haven’t been shooting as much street photography recently, mainly because I’ve been travelling and doing lots of design work too. However, I still have had some time to take some shots while out and about here in Dublin.

Recent Street Photography No. 3

It’s time for another instalment of my “Recent Street Photography” series. (Note to self: come up with a better name for this.) I haven’t actually been doing as much street shooting recently as I normally would, and as I went to gather some shots for this street photography post, I actually thought I wouldn’t have that many, but it turns out, I actually had plenty.

Recent Street Photography No. 2

Ive been out shooting some more street photography lately. I like shooting the street genre as it allows me to both get practice, but also try out various shooting styles, although I try and not take it too seriously. Most of what I shoot is on the streets of Dublin City for part of my ongoing art project “The Streets of Dublin”. Over the past few weeks I’ve been both out shooting some more, and also sorting through my library, and collecting all the street shots into one collection.

Recent Street Shots

I take a lot of street photography, mostly for my ongoing Streets of Dublin project. Every now and then I like to share some of them here, and I haven’t done an update in a while, so here are some that I’ve taken over the last few months (some longer). I may have posted some of these before as part of other stories, but It’s nice to have them together as a collection. I’m going to try and do this as a regular series. Anyway, enjoy!

Loving the Light

A lot of the time when I'm out photographing, I take pictures that, while not exactly the most fascinating subjects, I still like to take. Sometimes, there's something about an otherwise bland scene that I really like, and it's usually to do with the way the light is falling in the scene. Sometimes people don't get what I see in a scene, and that's ok. Not every photo has to be a masterpiece, and not every photo has to be art gallery worthy.  Photography is, of course, all about light, and sometimes I love an image because of the way the light interacts with whatever is in the scene.

Shooting Street Photography with the iPhone 6 Plus

Following on from my first impressions post the other day, I spent a bit more time shooting with my new iPhone on Friday. I headed into the city to do some street photography, armed with my Fuji X-E1 and my iPhone 6. I had been intending to shoot mostly with the Fuji and get some sample shots with the iPhone, but after a while I ended up putting the X-E1 away and just using the iPhone. I was simply having too much fun with it.

Recent Shots: A Walk in the Dublin Docklands

I went for a photowalk around the docklands area of Dublin a couple of weeks ago. It was a bright, but cold winter morning and the Docklands is always full of interesting subjects. I walked around for about an hour before the cold got the better of me (it was minus 1 at the time).

A Black and White Journey on Dublin's Streets

I'm not a huge black and white shooter. Don't get me wrong, I like black and white, but I rarely set out with the notion of shooting exclusively in the format. I used to in the past, but I haven't done it in ages, so when I was in the city centre here in Dublin the other day, I decided to try shooting some black and white images with my new(ish) Sony A6000.

Recent Street Photography (with the Sony A6000)

I've been shooting some more street photography recently, partly as part of my review of the A6000, which was a good excuse to get out there, despite the really cold weather we've been having lately. I've written my first impressions of the little Sony camera already, and I'll be doing a full, comprehensive review once I've been using it for a few weeks.
