Get Ready for a Busy Software Season
The next couple of weeks are going to be pretty busy for photo software. We’ve recently had plenty of teasing about Luminar 4, as well as an announcement of sorts about the next version of Capture One. So what can you expect over the next little while?
Adobe
Adobe MAX starts on November the 4th, and this is the company’s annual conference (kind of like Adobe’s version of WWDC or E3). While they haven’t announced anything, I would expect updates, or at least the announcement of future updates at this event. They have already teased a cool new AI powered selection feature coming to Photoshop, so I would expect to see more at the Max keynote. Photoshop for iPad may also be finally officially released, and perhaps some updates to Lightroom and the rest of the eco system?
Luminar 4
By now you probably know that Luminar 4 is coming soon. Well, it’s coming on November the 18th to be exact. Skylum had been drip feeding information about this over the past little while, so the features probably won’t be much of a surprise by the time it’s released. You can see some of my impressions of using the beta here and here.
Capture One
The next version of Capture One is also due to be released sometime in the next month or two. In the past they’ve released updates towards the end of November. I don’t know if that will be the case this time or not, but they’re already offering a free upgrade to anyone who buys between now and the release, which they didn’t do before as far as I know, at least not publicly.
They’ve also just released a maintenance upgrade to the current version, bringing it to 12.1.4, which features new camera support and bug fixes. You can find out more about this release here.
Other Recent Releases
Apart form the upcoming software, there has also been a few other major updates recently.
- Exposure X5 was released a little while ago. I’ve covered it with a first look review here.
- OnOne RAW 2020 has also just been released. I’m not covering this software, because I’m not happy with some of its fundamentals, and these issues haven’t been fixed in the new version either.
