Second Hand Fuji Cameras
There will undoubtedly be lots of excitement surrounding the announcement of the new X-Pro 2 if it is announced as rumoured in a few hours time. However, if you're looking to get into the Fuji X system on the cheap, you should look at the second hand market. Certain Fuji cameras are going for very little on the second hand market right now. If you're on a tight budget and you are interested in becoming an X-Shooter it's certainly worth a look.
Introducing Coffee Tones for Lightroom
I’m happy to announce that my first new set of Lightroom Presets for 2016 is now available. Called “Coffee Tones” the set is, as the name suggests, inspired by the look of coffee. It has a number of looks in both colour and black and white. All have some variation of warm earthy coffee coloured tones.
Kodak brings Super 8 Back from the (Almost) Dead
While Nikon may have had the big photographic announcements at CES this year, in my opinion, the more exciting news came from Kodak. Yes, Kodak, remember them? Kodak announced that they’re creating a new super 8 film camera. The new camera and service will blend digital and film technologies, and seeks to capitalise on the analogue resurgence. As someone’s who’s shot Super 8 in the past, I for one am very excited about this.
A Year with the Sony A6000: A long term review - Part 3
Continuing on from Parts 1 and 2, This third part completes my review of the Sony A6000. In this part I look at using the camera for Street photography, do come comparisons, and finish off with some conclusions and more sample images.
A Year with the Sony A6000: A long term review - Part 2
Continuing on from part one of my Sony A6000 review, in this second part I look at image quality and shooting video on the Sony A6000
A Year with the Sony A6000: A Long Term Review - Part 1
Last January, at the beginning of 2015, I decided to add a Sony A6000 to my ever growing camera collection. The reasons for the purchase were twofold. My Sony Nex–7 had died an unceremonious death, and it was going to cost too much to repair. Secondly, I wanted a small camera for video. Since then I’ve used the little Sony more and more and over the past 12 months I’ve really grown to like it.
All the fun of a hard drive failing
I knew something wasn't right. My computer, a 2012 Mac Pro, had suddenly decided to go slow. Not just slow, but slow in a very specific way. It was like it was stopping to think every few seconds. It was something that was eerily familiar. I'd seen this before, and I hoped the cause wasn't the same, but I knew in my heart what was happening. My hard drive was failing. Worse, it was my system drive.
Choosing a Raw Processor for Fuji X-Trans Files - Updated
A couple of years ago I wrote a blog post about choosing a raw converter for Fuji X-Trans files. I spoke about which was my favourite piece of software at the time, and I did a pros and cons list for some of the various different converters on the market. Since that was back in 2014, a lot has changed since then. There are major new versions of several of the applications out now, and I’ve changed my mind as to which I prefer personally.

Street Photography Diary Number 10
I had thought that I didn't really have any new street photography shots for the last little while, until I was going through my library in Lightroom and discovered a whole shoot that I had forgotten about. With all my travel in December I hadn't fully gone through the shots from a photo walk I took through Dublin in November and I'd completely forgotten about it.
Looking Back at the Year, and Looking Forward to 2016
This past year has been kind of a weird one for me. I achieved a lot of what I had planned for this site, and for my photography career, but I also had some setbacks, both personally and work wise. In this post I'll take a look back at 2015, and talk about some plans and goals for the year ahead.
My work featured in publications this year
I was fortunate to have some of my Photography picked up on by editors, and used in two different fairly major publications this year. One was a book, and the other was use for an international advertising campaign.
5 Features I wish Apple would add to Photos on the Mac
Up till now I haven’t really used Photos on the mac except for managing my iPhone images. While I do like the background syncing with my mobile devices, I don’t find that it really meets my needs as a photographic management tool. As someone who used Aperture for a long time, I wish Apple had made the software a little more advanced. Having used it a little more recently on my trip to London and Brussels, I realised that there a few features or changes, that could be added, that aren’t huge, but I think would really improve the experience, especially for more seasoned photographers.
London's Borough Market: Processing DSLR images on an iPhone with VSCO Cam via Apple Photos on the Mac!
Ok, that headline is a bit of a mouthful, but it’s better than some of the others I’ve been thinking about for this post. Basically, I’ve been doing something that’s probably a bit silly from a workflow point of view, but is actually a bit of fun and is producing some interesting results. Basically, I’ve been using VSCO Cam on the iPhone to process some of the images I shot in London on my Nikon D700.
On the road in London
I've been travelling a bit for the last few days and I got to spend some time in London. I've only been in London a few times before and every time I've enjoyed it (well, except tat one time I wasn't well) . This time we decided to stay on the south bank and we had a lovely time. The weather was very mild, and it only rained once. It has been very warm for this time of year, ranging between 12-14 degrees Celsius. We only had a few days, but we managed to pack in as much as possible, including an incredible tour of the BBC and a trip to the top of the Shard. Of course, I took as many photos as possible!
