Fire in the Sky

There was such an amazing sky over Dublin on Tuesday night that it made headline news around the country. Well, maybe not headlines, but it was featured in many news reports. I was lucky to have a ring side seat for the show as the sun sets directly in front of where I live, and our apartment is pretty elevated so I can see over the other buildings in the area. I've captured some great skies from this spot in the past, but this had to be one of the most dramatic I have seen in a long time.

I was shooting these and I realised I wasn't really capturing the grandeur of what was going on, because there was this magnificent cloud formation that stretched across the entire sky. Even shooting wide wouldn't have done it justice, so i decided to chance my arm and do a panorama. I was shooting with my 5DII so the resultant panorama ended up being massive. My poor computer was groaning trying to put it together, but the result was worth it. (Click on the image to view large)
