Augmented Sky in Action in Luminar 4.2

Augmented Sky in Action in Luminar 4.2

When Luminar 4.2 was announced last week, I expressed my opinion on the software, and how I thought that the new AI Augmented Sky feature seems like its not something that should be a priority. I still stand by that assessment, but I also wanted to be a little more open-minded about it, so I’ve been playing around with it for the last week, and so here is a quick before and after.

I will have a tutorial next week on this, but here’s what I did, briefly…

I replaced the sky using one of the built in sky options, in the AI sky replacement. This also changed the overall colouring. I then used AI Augmented Sky to add the Aurora. I wanted to add some more effects, but you can only do one at a time, so I created a new stamped layer (like creating a flattened layer in Photoshop), and ran AI Augmented sky on that and added the fireworks.

The next thing I did was create a stamped layer again, and flipped it, and masked it in over the water to match the reflections. Finally I added a new adjustment layer and used that to add some glow to help tie the composite together.

I’ll have more on the process for this next week, and some of the limitations, but I just wanted to share this in the mean time.
