The Day After: A Short FIlm about Trash
The Day After from Thomas Fitzgerald on Vimeo.
Every time I go for a walk through the city on either a Saturday or Sunday morning, the aftermath of the night before is clearly visible. Dublin drinkers leave bottles, cans and glasses strewn about the city streets with abandon. Not to mention the broken glass and the stained side walk which is best not thought about. I've often thought about doing a collection of stark "urban decay" style images to highlight this phenomenon, but instead I decided to make a little short film. It's not a serious project, as I'd have to shoot a lot more footage, but it is more of an experimental film tries to make this urban scourge into something artistic.
Technical Details
I shot this using my little Sony Nex-7 and the kit lens. I had set the camera to shoot at 50p which I then slowed back down to 25p during the edit. Coupled with a little stabilisation in FCPX, the result was a nice "flying" motion on the shots. I also converted everything to black and white using Film Convert for a suitably stark look!
