Processing Fuji Files with Exposure X5: A Quick Look
When I talk about Processing Fuji raw files, I mostly cover Capture One and Lightroom (with X-transformer). While I still think that Capture One is the best overall option, there is another application that I've been using a lot lately, and that is Exposure X5. While it is not as fully featured as Lightroom or Capture One, it does have some unique attributes. For Fuji Shooters, it offers some appealing options, depending on your preferences.
Quick Photo Software News Update : Capture One Styles News
Just a quick update with some photo software related news. Specifically, there are some new styles out from Mastin Labs, and Capture One is having a deal on some of their styles in a limited edition bundle.
Automatically Apply Fuji Film Simulations in Lightroom 9.2
One of the new features in the recently released Lightroom 9.2 should particularly appeal to Fuji shooters. Thanks to the new RAW defaults options, you can now automatically apply the correct colour profile to match what you shot in-camera. It's pretty straightforward to use, so in this post, I'll show you what to do.
Adobe February Lightroom Updates - New Features in Lightroom Classic 9.2
Adobe has just released its latest round of Lightroom updates, with new versions across the Lightroom ecosystem. I want to focus on the new version of Lightroom Classic today though, and one of the new features in particular. But first, here’s an overview of what’s new…
Video: How to share projects between Lightroom and Capture One
One of my Patreons (is that a word?) wanted to know if there was a workflow to rate and sort your photos in Lightroom and do your editing in Capture One. So I made a video to show you my workflow for doing this.
How to Pixel Peep Responsibly
The term “pixel peeping” is one of those loaded terms in photography. Like “chimping” it has become an insult used by photographers to cast shade on others. Also, like chimping, the “evils” of pixel peeping have been blown out of proportion. The actual act of viewing an image at 100% on a screen actually has some valuable merits; however, it’s also essential to understand its value and limitations.
The Best Way to Process Fuji Raw Files in 2020
I've been covering how to process Fuji X-Trans files on this website for quite a few years now, and I still regularly get questions from people asking me what the best option for processing Fuji RAW files is. I generally try and not directly answer that for a few reasons, the most obvious of which is that the answer is subjective. What I might find the "best" isn't necessarily what someone else might find the best for them. So, in the past, I've tried to present lots of different options, and let people decide for themselves. But, today, I' going to break my own rule and tell you what I think are the best options, in my opinion, in order of preference.
Video: A Look at Wordroom for Lightroom. A plug-in that automatically keywords your images.
One of the things I hate doing, and I’m terrible at, is keywording my photos. So when I read about this new plug-in that uses AI to automatically tag your images I thought it was definitely something worth giving a look.
Luminar 4.1 Now Available
Luminar 4 has received its first major update, and the new version adds some new functions to the Sky Replacement filter, as well as a collection of under-the-hood fixes and enhancements. Here’s a breakdown of what’s new in the update
How I got into Photography, and the lessons I learned on the way
This is kind of a more personal post than I usually write, but it's something that I've wanted to get down on (virtual) paper for a while. Lately, I’ve been reminiscing about how I got to be doing photography as a full-time occupation. My journey to photography was something of a long-winded one, and it wasn't something I considered doing full time until later in life, but my roots in the art started at an early age, though.
Photomatix HDR Plug-in for Capture One in Beta
One of the features not available in Capture One that people often ask about is the ability to Merge HDR images. While there are third party options for merging images into an HDR file, such as Aurora HDR and Photomatix, none of these integrates particularly well with Capture One. Until now, that is. HDR Soft has released a beta version of Photomatix which has a Capture One plug-in, allowing you to merge images from Capture One, and it will re-import the finished file back once you've created your HDR.
Possible Solution to Lightroom Memory Leak Bug
A little while ago I wrote a post about my frustration with the amount of memory Lightroom was using, and how I suspected that it was a memory leak bug of some kind. After a lot of trying different things, I seem to have found a potential solution.
Video: Customising the Capture One Interface
One of the really useful features of Capture One is that you can completely customise the interface. This ranges from simple things like changing the toolbar, and re-ordering tools, to creating your own tool tabs and workspaces. In this video, we look at the many ways you can customise the Capture One interface, and create a custom tool tab to make it easier for someone switching from Lightroom.
Looking back over the past decade, and looking forward to the next
As we start a new year, and end a decade, and I wanted to reflect a little on what has happened in terms of this blog, and my photography over the past ten years. I wasn’t really thinking about it that much, but when looking back through my photo archive, I realise that I did accomplish a lot over the past ten years, and a lot has changed.
Signing off for Christmas
It’s Christmas Eve and the Christmas lights are on, the candles are lit, and the dim winter light outside is making everything cosy. I’m taking a break from the blog, and youtube and everything else for a few days over the Christmas Season, and so I wanted to wish all of my readers who celebrate Christmas a happy Christmas from Ireland, and for those who don’t a happy holiday season, and Happy new year. I also wanted to thank everyone for all of your support during the year.
