New Video: Generative Fill is the Best Way to Remove Reflections from Photos

A little while ago I was going through some photos and I came across a cool shot I had taken in New York of a dog in front of a large window. Unfortunately it was ruined by the reflection of yours truly. Normally removing something like this would be quite time consuming, so I thought, why not try Generative Fill. Not only did it work, but it worked perfectly at removing the reflections and keeping the other detail. So I made a video to show you the process…

In some ways, this is a perfect use case for generative fill. It works really well for removing reflections because the reflections are often blurry and distorted anyway, it’s less of an issue if the results aren’t perfect. It’s much, much better than content aware fill, and if you do it in small sections, you don’t even have to worry about the resolution being an issue. It really is kind of amazing.

In the first example from the video above, this is something I’ve shot loads of times, and I’ve never even bothered trying to remove myself from the reflections as it’s just too much of an effort. Between the complexity of the shape itself, and the curvature and the patterns, cloning and stamping would be a nightmare, and context aware erase just doesn’t work. However, with generative fill, it only took a few minutes.
