FilmLUX Classic - Film Presets for Lightroom Now Available
I’ve finally done it! My first new set of Lightroom presets in nearly five years are now available. As I mentioned in a couple of previous posts, this took a lot of work to get out the door, mainly because I haven’t done one of these sets in so long, but I’m pretty happy with the results, and I hope you will be too!
FilmLUX classic is a re imagination of my old FilmLUX collection which was discontinued long ago. The idea was to create a set of filmic (dare I use the dreaded phrase: “cinematic” ?) presets that gave the overall look of film without actually trying to emulate any particular film stock. The reason for this is that trying to emulate actual film is actually really complicated and there are so many variables that come into the equation, such as how its processed, how its rated in the camera, how it's scanned and so all. Most traditional “emulation” presets make a lot of those decisions for you and are only ever really part of the equation. So rather than try and do all that, I went for the end result that looked like what people think of when they think of film, or at least thats the idea.
I also wanted to make a modern set of Lightroom presets that make use of all of Lightroom’s features and with these, I think I’ve done that. The set includes the main “look” presets, as well as a set of tools, and the tools make use of the masks feature of Lightroom to achieve a variety of effects, while also giving you a simple way to control the effect, by adjusting them with the “Preset Amount” or the mask slider.
As for the main presets, there are 10 colour negative styles, each in two variations. There’s also a special bonus third set for Fuji shooters (X-Trans 4 or later), which are pre-encoded to use the Fujifilm Classic Negative simulation for a Fuji specific look.
Below are some example images processed with FilmLUX classic and the video embedded above shows before and after results of using the presets. For more details and to get your copy visit my store. I’m having a special launch price of €15 for the first two weeks after which they’ll go back to the normal price of €20.
