Photoshop 2021 Sky Replacement Tool - Use Sky Replacement to Fix a Burnt Out Sky

One of the tools recently added to Photoshop was a new AI-based sky replacement feature. Similar to the headline feature in Luminar, it allows you to replace a sky without complex masking. While sky replacement has gotten something of a bad name recently, it can actually be useful for quickly fixing an otherwise problematic image. In this case, I use it to replace an overexposed sky with a similar one and salvage a photo with a minimal amount of work.

Capture One Express 21 and Where to Find the Nikon version of C1 Express

Just a quick update on Capture One Express. When Capture One Pro was updated to version 21, I saw a few people saying that Capture One Express was discontinued. This is not the case. There was also speculation that it wasn’t updated to version 21 but this too isn’t true. I got in contact with Capture One to clarify the current state of the application, and so here are the details.

Instagram Weirdness and Possible Security Issues

Last week I started having some weird things happen to one of my Instagram accounts. Instagram suddenly started sending me emails for my “Streets of Dublin” Instagram account in Russian. At first, I thought it musty be a hack or someone had breached my account, but there is a whole thread on Reddit about it from people having the same problem.

Photography and Coffee, A Love Story

I like coffee. A lot. It’s probably one of my biggest obsessions after photography. I have about 10 different methods of making coffee, including three different coffee machines. I like all different kinds of coffee, and I’ll make a different type depending on the time of day and my mood. At this point, you’re probably wondering what any of this has to do with photography, but bear with me. It’s a bit of a journey, but we’ll get there.

Capture One 21 Dehaze Troubleshooting Tips

When Capture One 21 was released with the long-awaited Dehaze tool, I was a little disappointed with the results. However, having worked with it for a while now, I’ve come up with a few tips and suggestions for getting around the shortcomings of the feature. I still hope they improve it in future versions, but for now, here are some workarounds.

Luminar AI Review

I’ve been writing reviews for over ten years. I’ve covered all sorts of things from hardware, to software, and I’ve never had as hard a time writing a review as I have with Luminar AI. Since the application came out just before Christmas, I’ve seen many reviews and coverage extolling its virtues, but this wasn’t matching my experience with it. I wondered what I was doing wrong because it seemed like I was reading about a completely different application.

Capture One Price Increase

I must admit to only half following this news over the past few days, being somewhat preoccupied with real-world events. Anyway, the other day Capture One announced that they were putting the prices up for some versions of Capture One, notably the Nikon, Fujifilm and Sony versions. In addition, they are putting the number of seats with the Nikon/Sony/Fujifilm versions to two.

Happy Christmas and End of Year Update

As it’s getting pretty close to Christmas now, I’m signing off for the rest of the year to take a much-needed break. I have a few unfinished articles that I had hoped to get out before Christmas, but they’ll be out in the new year now. I’ll get to those in a minute, but for now, I wanted to wish everyone out there who celebrates it, a happy Christmas, and for everyone, a happy new year. Let’s hope 2020 doesn’t have any more nasty surprises up its sleeve for is. I’ve gone and jinxed it, haven’t I?

Capture One 21 Review

It’s been a little while now since Capture One 21 was released. The new version of Capture One has been accompanied by a bit of a backlash about the amount of new features. Putting that aside, for now, In this review, I wanted to focus on a couple of things, namely the headline features of Dehaze and Speed Edit, and I’ll discuss some of the other improvements too. I’ll also look at whether or not the criticism of this release is justified.

Recent Photo Software Updates for M1 Macs

Since the release of Apple’s new MacBooks and Mac mini powered by their own Apple Silicon, software ported to these new M1 processors has steadily been released. While we’re still waiting on some of the key applications, there has recently been some bigger names releasing M1 optimised versions.
